Origin of Bills
What is a bill? Well, a bill is something which is a printed or written statement of the money owed for goods or services. No it’s not the bill which the parliament passes; we are not talking about that! We are talking about the bill which is simply an “Invoice.”
So what is its origin? (Oh yes, we can hear your mind voice “Who Cares?”) But still, in the current scenario, “Bill” is everything and it is everywhere! Did you know that we are dedicating half of our life to paying our bills? So here is the evolution of bills…
In early stages we didn’t have bills; In fact, we didn’t pay money to buy goods and services. People bought goods in exchange to salts. Salt and Rice were given to the merchants to buy goods like livestock, sacks of cereal grain, etc. As early as 9000 BC both grain and cattle were used as money. The first time bill came into the picture is when the inhabitants of one country became more dependent on those of another, and they imported what they needed, and exported what they had too much of, money necessarily came into use and people started exchanging written documents which states a list of goods sent or services provided, with a statement of the sum due for these.
Payment bills acquired its importance only when money came to play. So people started trading and there came the practice of providing paper bills (A bill for goods or services in paper form). That was the age where we literally did not have any electronic inventions like Smart phones, Laptops, etc. After the invention of computers, the paper bill was slowly converted into e-bills (eBills are electronic versions of paper bills).
An eBill (electronic bill) is an electronic version of the conventional paper bill that you can view and pay online. An eBill arrives from a biller into your Bill Pay account service the same way a paper bill arrives from a biller into your mailbox (Thanks to this invention so that our wallet will not be filled by paper bills!) Nowadays there are many apps which allow you to view all your eBills as well as account balances, transactions and statement information in one place.
When you’re ready to pay, all you need to do is go online and enter the amount, schedule the date you want the bill paid, and click to pay. It’s that easy. And it all happens in a single click! Incredible isn’t it? So save time, get a smart phone, download the app and make payments hassle free. It’s time to bid adieu to paper bills!
